You must have known by now that Tasia of Sewaholic has just launched her newest pattern, the Hollyburn skirt. It means that now I can share the pictures of the skirt that I have made as one of the pattern tester!
This is the third time I’ve been a pattern tester for Sewaholic pattern, the other ones are Minoru Jacket and these Renfrew tops. I’ve also made her Pendrell top several times and this Cambie dress is one of my favorite thing in the world. I never have to alter her pattern too much, each time it was just shortening the bodice or hem and other slight adjustments. All the things I made from her pattern are worn in daily basis and this is the sign of a succesful project. I think Tasia is a genius!
With this skirt pattern, I didn’t even have to alter any single thing. This pattern is drafted for beginner level. A flared skirt, almost half-circle, with three different lengths with three different amounts of flare. Because it is a flared skirt, you only have to choose the size based on the waist. The skirt also has pockets and optional button tabs or belt loops.
I made view C, the shortest length in size 2 with button tabs. The fabric is black polyester with suede-like texture and the lining is black rayon. Tasia’s sewing instructions are clear as usual and I’m sure anybody in beginner level won’t have any trouble following it.
Actually I wasn’t too sure about the skirt when I first saw the pattern. It was not the style that I usually consider to wear. But I changed my mind after wearing it. It is flattering and comfortable at the same time. This is a very versatile pattern that will look good in solid or patterned fabric, in any length, and even in almost any type of fabric. It’s a good thing that I tested this pattern, now I know that I can wear this style of skirt!

Before I go on perusing your other posts, I wondered if you could share your shoes’ brand? I love them and they look like I could actually walk in them.

Hi Marie, the shoes’ brand is Worishofer, they’re orthopedic sandals from German company so they’re very comfortable! I bought them from Modcloth, but I think you can find them in other stores as well. I live them so much I bought three in different colors 😛
Really nice. The fabric choice really brings out the details of the pattern. I bought this pattern and now, I’ll take a second look at it. Of course, it’s still -4 C in Toronto, so I can’t wear it for at least a month.
It looks lovely on you! I always thought the same thing about flared skirts until I made one (I think Simplicity 2666). But it’s a bit of a gamble if you’re not sure if something will suit you after spending ages on it isn’t it! I love it with the yellow top too 😉

I was a pattern tester for the Hollyburn too, and I know that I’ll make another in a solid colour like you did, because it is such a good basic skirt. I made view B in a print, because I wasn’t sure the shortest length would work on me, but I like it on you, so I may give it a go!

This is cute. I really like the way her patterns fit me, too, and they kind of sew themselves. This skirt looks very similar if not the same to the skirt part of the Lonsdale… I don’t know if you’ve tried that yet but it is such a fun dress to wear in summer!

Yes Tasia said that this skirt is inspired by the Lonsdale skirt, so you might not need the pattern if you’ve already had Lonsdale.
The top is actually from H&M, bought on sale a couple of years ago 😛
I love this skirt! My question is- does the pattern include instructions for putting in the lining? And what kind of zipper does it use?

The pattern doesn’t include instructions for the lining, I just used the same pattern pieces to make the lining, eliminating the front pockets. You should try making it! Thank you ^^

I actually just went back and added this skirt to my pattern wishlist of bookmarks. I need to use up quite a bit of fabrics I already have before I buy any new patterns though! LOL

I notice yours has gathers at the front but I can’t see gathers on the line drawing or on Tasia’s versions. Did you make this modification yourself?
I didn’t realize that it looks like it has gathers at the front! There’s actually no gathers. I guess my sewing wasn’t too neat there or I didn’t clip the allowance enough…. 😛
Well, that’s okay! I thought it looks pretty neat and was a bit disappointed to see there were no gathers on the pattern itself. Your skirt is still perfect! And thank you for clarifying that.
