Tagging game: Number 8

First IKEA trip

This is a picture that my husband took two years ago when Sidra and I were about to go to IKEA, a week after we arrived in Tokyo. We needed to buy some furniture because our apartment was a bit empty after my husband got rid of his ‘single’ furniture. You know, single couch, single bed, small TV, small bookshelves, etc.

That was one of those moments where everything was reset to zero and started over. The apartment was empty and we were about to fill it with our stuff. My husband left his single life and started something new. I gave all my stuff away and flew to Tokyo with only two luggages to carry. Sidra left his Indonesian school and had to go to a Japanese kindergarten where everybody spoke in strange language. He also got himself a new father. It was the beginning of our life here. We were all a bit afraid, but also very excited. Maybe my smile wasn’t big enough in the picture, but in my heart I smiled wider.

Actually I got tagged by this coolest woman, Pip from Meet Me at Mike’s for this cute game, and that was the reason I posted this picture. I was a bit busy this week and missed my blog, so thank you, Pip, for giving me a reason to post something!

The Tag game goes as follows:
Go to the 8th folder in which you store your photos
Select the 8th photo
Post it to your blog and tell the story behind it.
After following the above instructions, you are ‘supposed’ to tag 8 other bloggers.

Now I would tag these 8 lovely bloggers to play along, but don’t feel obliged to do the same if you’re busy!

  1. Crochetie
  2. Yoshimi The Flying Squirrel
  3. All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go
  4. Nikki Shell
  5. The House of Mirth
  6. Handmade con Amor
  7. Helen Rawlinson
  8. ‘So, Zo…’

  1. What a great photo. The smile doesn’t have to be bigger because your whole face is smiling and you look SO very happy! Lovely story.

  2. That is the best moment, I’m so impressed that you have that in photo form, I’m the type of person that all my travel memories are from busses or at service stations none of the big stuff just the little moments. Beautiful photo, beautiful story and pretty sweet blog. xx

    • Thank you! Well I take my camera everywhere I go, sometime snapping them at seemingly unimportant objects. My husband has his own camera too, and even Sidra sometimes has one in his bag. I gave him my old camera. So we have lots and lots of photos in our computers :)

  3. Thank you so much for playing! You know how much I love your blog… you are such a clever gal. I love the things you make and do. I do. Woo-hoo! It’s so funny how IKEA looks just the same everywhere. It’s kinda like Groundhog Day, isn’t it?! Hugs to you! x

  4. Hey, I want to thank you that so many new readers came from your blog since you tagged me!
Today, I posted my 8th/8th pic of a… bird…lol Well, I enjoyed it! That made me feel I have to tidy up my folder:D

    Thanks and see you soon!

  5. Hello!
I came to your blog from Burdastyle. I enjoyed reading your little life story! And so in awe with your creativity in sewing. I just started my first sewing project for my baby (read my blog!). Will be ‘bloglining’ your website! Cheers!

    • I saw that you made a lot of sewing for your dolls, that’s so cute! There are lots of cute dolls here and I always want to buy them, but I already have too many stuff at home. Your daughter’s dress is very cute too, must be fun making clothes for our own kids :)

      • Hi!
Yes, Momoko dolls from my blog are from Land of Rising Sun! You live in Japan but you do not buy dolls! AWWWWW..what a waste, he he he! But they are expensive to collect, so I have stopped for practicality. Yes, I am dablling now in children’s clothes making. Will be reading your blog constantly for inspiration

        • Hi
Can you tell me how do you trace patterns from Japanese magazines? There is one big sheet of pattern in these mags and it is ‘too precious’ to cut them up, so how do you trace them out? Could you tell me easiest and ‘laziest’ (haha) way? Thank you

  6. Very fun to see Swedish furniture in Japan. I hope you liked the store. Here in Sweden we have a lot of IKEA stores. But no one where I live. We have to drive four hours to find a IKEA.
I liked your story, that is true love!
I followed your blog for a while and I like it.

  7. Thanks for tagging me! I’m especially excited since I haven’t been tagged for anything before! Also, I really like your photo and story. It sounds like a happy time and reading it made me feel warm inside.

  8. Hola Novita! Thankyou for tagging me…of course I´ll play along, as soon as i get the kids to bed! I just got internet back today, so I´m blog hungry and I loved hearing from you! Saludos from mexico! Clau

  9. Hi Novita,

I really enjoy reading your scribbles…until the the last page!

    Keep it up…

  10. WOO! I did not know Ikea exist in Japan either. But it makes sense — Ikea has all those model home for under 500 sq ft! perfect for tokyo :)

your “happily ever after” story is so nice! :) its really admirable that you took such a big step for love and it works out perfectly!

    • It was actually the first IKEA I’ve ever been to. There is no IKEA in Indonesia and I really wanted to see one, so I was very excited!
Oh I guess sometimes it seems that there is no choice but taking that big step in life. Or maybe it is called blinded by love 😀
