Instead of packing like what I was supposed to do, I made a new set of bra and panties yesterday.

I was packing in the sewing room when my eyes rested upon this wonderful lycra fabric in my stash. The flowers pattern looks like a blooming garden in spring, and suddenly I felt that I need to make something with it right that very moment! Actually sewing calmed down my nerves, so it was my way of refreshing between packing.

The fabric was bought sometime ago in Okadaya, Shinjuku. The elastic and notions are from Merckwaerdigh at ebay. The bra pattern is my usual one, Pin-up Girls Classic Bra #1230, size 30C, a classic full band bra that can be made with or without underwires. I made mine with underwires.

The panties are high-waisted, made with PDF pattern, The Betty High Waist Panties from Ohhh Lulu. This is the first time I used this pattern, it came to my attention after reading this post by Madalynne. The pattern is for classic, princess-seam high waist knickers, it is designed for knits, but  can accommodate stretch-wovens, or loose-weaves cut on the bias.

I used serger to sew princess seams on the panties, then finished the elastic with sewing machine. I made size S but next time I will go with XS for a better fit. The instructions were very clear and straight-forward. I really had a good time making the panties, too bad my fabric is only enough for one pair.

The thing about high-waist panties is they look rather strange on hanger, maybe not as cute as the ordinary cheeky panties. But they are actually very flattering on the body. Worn together with the bra, they look like a retro swimwear set!

  1. I just love the fabric! I’d want to frolic in the garden wearing that! Those forget-me-knots are SO cute!! How comfortable is the high waist panty?

    • The high waist panty is actually quite comfortable! Although it keep peeking above my jeans or skirt… I think they are better worn with high-waisted pants or skirt as well. Sure looks cute though!

  2. This is so beautiful! The print is absolutely perfect for this, lovely spring full-bloom colors. I always love your lingerie posts–you inspired me to try my own. I’d love to hear about your experience with using your bra pattern with stretchy fabrics. I’ve been using the same pattern, which fit very well with low-stretch fabric similar to what’s recommended by the pattern, but dramatically changes fit when I use a fabric with lycra (definitely too big!).

    Happy moving!

    • Glad that you like the pattern!
I’ve used the same pattern with both low-stretch fabric and stretchy fabrics and found that both fit me quite well. But I feel that the low-stretch ones are more stable and more comfortable to wear. And I’m always worried that the stretchy ones will get stretchier in time! I think I will need to line the cups if using stretchy fabrics.

  3. So cute! Oh my goodness. I’m in love with this set. I wasn’t so sure about those high-waisted undies, but you probably have a good point – I bet they are flattering on.

    • Oh yes the high-waisted ones are quite flattering, especially around the back area!
They really accentuate the feminine shape 😀

  4. Thanks for the shout out. Your bra and panty look awesome, especially the print. I’m a recent convert to that type of print. Two years ago, I would have thought that print was uber tacky and only meant for tourists but now I’m in love with it. Weird how our eye changes, huh?

    • Actually I was a bit hesitant when I first saw the fabric in the store. But after checking it out for the third time, I was sure that I had to buy it! 😀

  5. Oooo I love this set. I recently saw ‘Ohhh Lulu…’ as a guest blogger on ‘A good wardrobe’ (http://agoodwardrobe.com/) I really want to to try it out now that I see how cute your set is. I completely agree that high-waisted panties look pretty frumpy on the hanger, but I’m sure they’re really comfy to wear. Good luck with the move!

    • and often I got carried away and spent the whole time sewing!! >_< I've packed the machines now to prevent myself from sewing again until everything we move 😛

  6. You wouldn’t be able to find something this pretty in the stores! Every time you look at this you’ll feel happy that you sew.

  7. Stunning! I have just dipped my toe into lingerie making, and I am hooked. Your set is an inspiration. Is it made of stretch fabric? Lovely.
