I’m not feeling well lately, headache, coughs, runny nose, etc. I guess the transitional period between summer to autumn is not doing good to my body. To make myself feel better, I sew several things for Sidra.
I made these two shirts yesterday. The beige one is using leftover fabric from my husband’s shirt. I’ve washed the fabric this time, so hopefully it will stay in shape. The green one is recycled from my own shirt. I bought it in a thrift shop sometime ago for colder weather, but then rarely wear it. I reuse the green button tab and cuffs from the original shirt.
Today Sidra had a haircut! It was his first professional haircut done in Japan. Actually it was in ¥1000 haircut shop in nearby supermarket, but usually I’m the one who does his haircut. The last time he went for a professional haircut was probably in Indonesia, when he was two years old. But this time he wanted a new look, he had the same haircut since he was three years old so I guess it’s time to get a real haircut.
I was very nervous during the process, but Sidra didn’t look worried at all. In fact, he was holding his giggles because he wasn’t used of the hair clipper. He looked like a different kid after it’s all done! Sidra was very happy with his new hair, he said it is now easier to scratch his head when it’s itchy.

I think your machine would be fine for twin needles if it has that overlock foot with the brushes. I found this tutorial which will explain the process better than I can. http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/twin-needle-stitching
It gives areally professionl finish and the underside has a narrow zig zag finish so you don’t need to overlock. It is great for hemmingte bottom of t shirts etc, around the neck and sleeve hems as well. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Hi Coleena, I don’t read nor speak Japanese at all but I hardly had trouble with Japanese pattern. They always have lots of clear drawings and diagrams. They’re fun, like puzzle

Not sure if you remember me asking you about getting start on clothes making a while ago~ Well, I haven’t got started, but I would like to get some more advice! I read in the comment above that you don’t have an overlocker as well, what do you do with the fraying edges?? do you just use zigzig stitch? In fact I tried making a pair of pajama pants using zigzig stitches, but it didn’t turn out that nice>< any tips? and what is stretch stitch?
Yes, I only use zigzag stitches for the fraying edges. I change the foot to overedge foot when doing this so the stitches will stay right on the edge of fabric. The foot has some kind of brush thingy on it, you can google ‘overedge foot’ to see how it looks like. I think most sewing machine will have it as part of its basic equipments.
Sometimes I bind raw edges with bias strips or use zigzag scissors. For knit fabric like this, I often left the raw edges just as they are because they won’t fray.
Stretch stitch let ordinary sewing machine sew knits, you can refer to your sewing machine manual book to find out if it has one. You can also just use small zigzag stitches for knits.

I am loving your blog and I like the t shirts you have been making. Have you ever used a twin-needle for stretch fabrics? It gives a really good neat finish on hems and sleeves that doesn’t stretch the fabric. Keep up the good work.
I’ve never tried that! Can it be used on ordinary sewing machine? I don’t have an overlock machine so I only used stretch stitch and zigzag stitch on my sewing machine. Thanks for the tip! ^_^
