Here’s the tutorial for these wallets!
The tutorial includes two variation of the closure, one with tab and velcro and the other with fabric loop and button.
For the tutorial, I made a pair of wallets from pink Japanese cotton fabrics, one in polkadot and the other one in floral pattern. The beige linings are Indian cotton fabrics. I hope the colours of the fabrics are not too muted in the pictures.
The tutorial can be downloaded below, it’s a 7 pages of PDF file. Please contact me if you have any difficulty downloading it, or if anything is not clear.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial and make your own version. Instead of velcro or fabric loop, you can also use snap-on button, magnetic closure, or plain elastics without the fabric loop.

Thank you so much for the tutorial!!! I was searching online for a wallet pattern and just didn’t like any of them (most didn’t include a zipper section for change) or were just too small. Your directions were very clear and easy to follow. The only problem I had was converting the cm to inches! This was very challenging. I used online converter but it would only convert to tenths of an inch and I wasn’t sure how to translate that into 1/8th of an inch??? So I just guestimated! I had a bit of difficulty with the binding as well (I had never used this to finish an edge…but will from now on!) but just read the post below where you suggest sewing one side then useing fusable tape to hold the other side to topstich. Will use this method next time. Thanks so much. I hope one day to have your skill level!
Well, after all I made it work. I hadn’t put the zipper in when I previously wrote, but was just fitting it together to figure it out. After putting the zipper in and adjusting the 1.5mm fold to accomodate, it worked out beautifully. Now just have to finish with the binding. Thank you for all your hard work in building the tutorial!
I am in the middle of making your beautiful wallet! but I am stuck. I can’t figure out how to place the (B3)lining which is
9cm into the space for the pocket. It seems too wide as the overlapping piece is only 6.5cm. When I fold it at the 6.5 mark, the lining just doesn’t work. Help!

I use Japanese cotton fabric with fusible interfacing so it is not too soft.
Okay, thanks. Can i know can the iron on batting replace with fusible interfacing?
I’ve never tried it before, but I assume it can be used depending on the thickness of the batting and/or the effect that you’re trying to achieve.

Do you have any suggestions on how to sew the binding on nice and straight? I seem to be having troubles and I’m not sure what I need to do to make this easier.
Hi Stephanie, I usually sew one side of bias tape first then use fusible tape for the other side and topstitch. Using topstitching foot on the machine can help too. But fusible tape is really helpful! I use it for sewing binding, installing zipper, sewing hem etc. Hope that helps!

If the fabric is thin, I use fusible interfacing on them.

Thank you for the tutorial! Would it be possible to chane the milimeters into inches for those of us that don’t use mm? I sure would appreciate a translation! Love the pattern though and will try to make one w/o sizes!

Unfortunately I’m only familiar with metric system. I’ve tried making a tutorial with inches but that was just too confusing for me, so I gave up. The best I can do is just suggesting to use online converter to change them. That is the way I usually do when facing pattern/tutorial that use inches. I’m sorry….
